Stormwater should be considered a resource that provides benefits such as groundwater recharge, which maintains flows in streams. Stormwater management also reduces the frequency and severity of flooding. Traditional stormwater management takes surface runoff and diverts it to a detention pond, which holds the water and releases.   Natural Resources Conservation Service Soil Scientists develop and maintain the Soil Survey. In New Jersey, Soil Surveys provide soil descriptions, interpretations and maps for each county.
